Offers a great value/performance ratio, ideal turntable for vinyl enthusiasts on a budget.
Price: £495.00
The Edwards Audio TT1 Mk3 turntable is the latest improved version of this remarkable value for money product.
It can be supplied without arm and cartridge, or with both fitted. The option shown priced here includes the tone-arm (a Rega AE-202) and Zephr C100 moving magnet cartridge.
The TT1 Mk3 has been designed to offer a great value/performance ratio and makes an ideal ‘first’ turntable for enthusiasts who are either just starting out or returning to vinyl.
The TT1 Mk3 features a good looking medium mass plinth onto which are mounted the 230V AC motor, the AE-202 arm, and a precision made brass bearing housing that supports the platter. The inner platter runs on a custom made ceramic 5mm bearing which runs in a specially produced light synthetic machine oil designed for Formula 1 applications and offers smooth silent running. This is all topped off with a custom turned 12 mm thick custom made Acrylic platter. The turntable is supported on 3 rubber isolation feet, designed to compliment the mass of the turntable.
This is a stunning package, the sound quality is high and if you wish to upgrade, it can supplied with a ruby bearing option for an additional £50, an aluminium inner platter with polished spindle, and tone-arm upgrades such as a better rear spigot and counterweight assembly forr a more controlled sound. All these upgrades together go to upgrade the TT1Mk3 to almost the complete but morre expensive TT2-SE tuntable specification. On top of this there is the soon to be released stand alone external speed control box, the SP1 with 33/45 speed change both with fine pitch adjustment.
If you wish to get the best possible sound from this (or any) turntable, we are happy to advise you. Like many 'fixed' design turntables, proper placement and isolation is important to get the very best performance. Positioning the TT1 Mk3 on top of a solid hi-fi rack is a suitable option, or a dedicated wall shelf is also recommended to isolate the turntable fully, or use an isolating support plinth.
All in all, this turntable has been awarded 5 stars by several magazines during its life, and the Mk3 option is now better than ever.
Our thoughts: If you want an inexpensive turntable that punches well above its weight this is well worrth considering. Having compared it to its competitors this deck offers quite remarkable performance for its price. It is very involving to listen to, with great weight and scale whilst retaining a remarkably uncoloured midband & open high frequencies. Our cartridge option upgrade would be the Hana SH or Hana SL that take this turntable to the next level of sound quality. Highly recommended.
